calls on politicians to radically modernise
the security policy |
“Internet
crime has overtaken all other types of crime
by miles!”
Amsterdam, 25 May 2010. When the election
campaigns mention security, they should also
concentrate more on Internet crime, which
now accounts for more than 50% of all crime,”
says trendwatcher Adjiedj Bakas. “The risk
of being robbed over the Internet is already
greater than the risk of being robbed on the
streets. >> more |

Hedge
Funds: A Modern Day Gold Rush
A day doesn’t go by without hedge funds being mentioned
in the papers. The phrase is now synonymous with a group
of savvy investors who try to gain by short-term transactions
on any markets. Amongst professionals this strategy is
known as Global Macro: investing in global macro-economic
trends and profiting from it. Besides this strategy there
are a dozen other strategies that hedge funds use. From
Long/Short to Event Driven, all >> more |

China
Calling/China Daily
The economic crisis has also affected China, where
thousands of factories have closed their doors. I gave
three lectures in Shanghai in August around the theme
of ‘Beyond the Crisis’. The EU-Chinese Chamber of Commerce
(EUCCC) organised a breakfast meeting with top European
entrepreneurs in Shanghai, while the association of female
expats or EPWS organised a lively discussion evening.
The CEIBS University put on a debate one evening for MBA
students. >> more |

Are
the carefree days over for gays in the West?
Within the space of a fortnight an unknown gunman
has attacked a community centre for gay teenagers in Tel
Aviv, and another unknown man has ignited a bomb in a
stadium in Copenhagen during a gay athletic tournament.
Are these incidents unrelated or are they symbolic of
a growing hostility to gays in the West? Incidents like
these will probably occur more often in the future as
several factors come together to make violence towards
gays more likely. >> more |

Beyond
the Crisis
Adjiedj Bakas, is a futurist – if he had lived
six hundred years earlier he would have been accepted
as a Prophet, or at best burnt at a stake as a heretic
or warlock. In the contemporary world, we need to “read”
trendsetters as they are the few ones that shape the world
of tomorrow – futurists are seers with keen insights and
the voices advising governments as to how the “worlds”
in its complexities operate – from who rules the biggest
bank, and how in a moment >> more |

Adjiedj Bakas warns banks about new competition and the
need for renewal
“Cocaine
use influenced risk culture in banking world”
“Banking secrecy is not only finally ending in
tax havens such as Luxembourg and Switzerland; this will
also become a worldwide trend. There will be a revival
in the importance of cash as a result. Deposit boxes full
of cash and “war gold” (jewels, etc.) are becoming trendy
among wealthy private clients. The anonymous numbered
account is coming back. Be sure you are ready as a bank.”
This was what trend watcher Adjiedj Bakas had to say last
Friday May 29th before an audience of 600 bankers in Luxembourg.
They were there for the prestigious annual Luxembourg
Financial Forum, in response to an invitation >>

Bakas about new “Fitna” movie Geert Wilders
In times of economic downturn, several patterns
always occur. Nationalism is always on the rise in such
times, and Geert Wilders is a smart politician, who uses
the new nationalism in The Netherlands. Others will follow
in other countries as well. In economic harsh times people
tend to become more critical to migrants. They trend to
weigh the worth of migrants in economic terms. And they
don’t tend to be willing to pay for welfare for migrants.
Undoubtedly the mass migration of Muslims in Europe in
the past 50 years is an economic failure. Although many
individual Muslim Europeans do very well in the economy,
